Dear Needham Voters,

I am running for Needham School Committee, and I would appreciate your support and your vote on April 12, 2011.

I have a strong commitment to public education, starting from being a student in the Hamilton-Wenham Regional School District and continuing in graduate school where I studied Educational Administration and Supervision. My husband Cliff and I moved to Needham 17 years ago because we wanted to raise children in a town that is justly proud of its outstanding school system.

My community activities in Needham have included volunteering at Hillside Elementary School for the past 8 years as the Hillside PTC Secretary and in the Program on Disabilities, serving as a Town Meeting Member since 2003, and being active on several override committees, including serving as a Co-Chair for the High Rock Operating Override in 2008.

I believe that Needham Public Schools are among the best in the state and have been fiscally responsible, despite the rising school aged population and dwindling resources from the state. However, there are numerous challenges that must be addressed to maintain the quality of the education provided by a committed faculty and school administration and valued by our community. I would be honored to serve on the School Committee and am committed to:

  • Maximizing educational opportunities for every Needham student, preparing them to be successful and informed global citizens.
  • Retaining, attracting, and supporting exceptional educators.
  • Fostering a shared vision between the school system and the community, especially in the face of fiscal constraints and on-going facility needs.
  • Advocating for an increased share of state funding, including monies for special needs students and the renovation of school buildings.

Please explore this website for more information about my qualifications for School Committee, to become involved in my campaign, to make a financial donation, or to contact me.

Most importantly, remember to vote for me on April 12, 2011.

Sincerely,

Kim Marie Nicols
